Rajya Sabha Television YouTube channel has crossed the 3 million (30 lakh) mark in terms of subscribers today, i.e. July 18, 2019 emerging as one of the fastest expanding channels on YouTube in the news space, leaving several channels behind.
The YouTube channel’s pace of growth has further increased in 2019. In just 7.5 months in 2019, the RSTV YouTube channel has acquired over 11.75 lakh organic subscribers. In 2018, the channel had got 11.96 lakh subscriptions.
We added a million subscribers in the last five and a half months (Between Feb 1, 2019 and July 15, 2019 RSTV got 9,99,854+ subscribers). This averages to nearly 6060 new subscribers a day.
RSTV had hit the 2 million mark earlier this year on February 4, 2019.
The Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, took to Twitter to compliment the channel on its new milestone.

RSTV had a subscriber base of 4,25,622 on August 10, 2017 when Shri M Venkaiah Naidu took over as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Since then, RSTV YouTube channel has acquired 25,58,460 subscribers, which is an increase of nearly 501% in less than 2 years. During the same period, total views on YouTube increased from 8.13 crore to 46.74 crore, marking an increase of nearly 487%.
With over 3 million YouTube subscriber base as on (give date), RSTV is far ahead of other channels like NDTV India (2.8 million), India Today (1.9 million), DD News (1.7 million), Times Now (1.1 million), Republic World (1.2 million), CNN News18 (1 million), News Nation (1.4 million), CNBC Awaaz (0.84 million), Lok Sabha TV(0.53 million), CNBC TV18 (0.37 million), News X (0.34 million) and WION (0.33 million).
Among the leading news channels, RSTV is in the eighth position behind only AajTak, ABP News, India TV, Zee News, NDTV, News18 India and News24.
The rapid expansion in the viewership of RSTV is attributed to editorial autonomy, selection and diversification of content making it unique from others, increased coverage of the official events involving the Prime Minister and increased ground reporting.
Owing to RSTV’s increased online reach, Rajya Sabha proceedings streamed live on the YouTube channel has seen a spurt in growth.
On May 23, 2019, the day the results of Lok Sabha Polls 2019 were out, RSTV’s YouTube channel clocked over 18.37 lakh views.
On July 5, 2019 the day Union Budget 2019-20 was presented, the YouTube channel clocked over 13.30 lakh views.

Several of Rajya Sabha TV’s videos have gone viral, which includes speeches and events of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The video clip of PM Modi calling on the Vice President ahead of his swearing-in ceremony clocked over one more than 1,57,000 views in less than 24 hours.
For further improving the content and coverage planning, RSTV has joined BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) platform for assessing viewers’ response to each of its shows. RSTV will also soon start airing advertisements of government’s and public sector entities on the lines of LSTV.
