South African paralympian Oscar Pistorius has had his sentence for killing Reeva Steenkamp increased from six years to 13 years and five months.
The paralympian denied killing Steenkamp in a rage, saying he was trying to protect her at his home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
He was initially sentenced to six years for murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp after initially receiving a five year sentence for manslaughter in 2014.
Jail term was less than half of the 15 years term prosecutors sought for the shooting but previous appeals to challenge it were turned down.
Judge Thokozile Masipa dismissed a request saying she was not persuaded that there was a reasonable prospect of success at another court.
State prosecutors, led by advocate Gerrie Nel, filed an application to the Supreme Court of Appeal, National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku told Reuters.
