Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu Sunday gave away prestigious Akkineni Nageswara Rao film award to renowned Telugu film director and screen writer SS Rajamouli in Hyderabad.

43 year old SS Rajamouli shot to international fame for his blockbuster movies Bahubali 1 one and Bahubali 2 which were released in 2015 and 2017.

The renowned Telugu director and screen writer has earlier directed movies like Magadheera (2009) and Eega (2012).

On Sunday SS Rajamouli received the prestigious film award instituted in the name of veteran Telegu actor and producer Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

Veteran Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao was known for his biographical films based on Indian mythology and great saints like Bhakta Jaidev of Odisha, Saint Tukaram of Maharashtra and also on Valmiki and Kabir. Popularly known as ANR, he was also famous the romantic movies done by him.

Humbled by the award, Bahubali director said: “It’s a huge burden on my shoulder. I will have to struggle more.”

While felicitating the renowned Telugu director Rajamouli, Vice President said the awards are meant to inspire others.

He said: “I’m sure you will excel further. You can shoulder the responsibility because you have Bahubali, not the physical strength but the intellect.”

Addressing the gathering of Telugu film industry at Shilpkala Vedika in Telangana capital Hyderabad, Vice President urged the film makers to avoid depicting violence, obscenity and atrocities on women in their movies.

Mr. Naidu also urged the film producers and directors to promote Indian languages, Indian culture and family values and use the cinema as a medium to bring about social changes in the society.

Popular Telugu film actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, who is also famous for his Hindi movie Shiva based on the student politics, has instituted the award in the honor of his father Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagarjuna said that the ANR national award was given to the contributors and achievers like Rajamouli.

The prestigious award which was started in the year 2005  has so far been given to famous film personalities like Devanand, Vyajantimala Bali, Shabana Azmi, Lata Mangeshkar and Amitah Bachchan.

Bahubali’s director  SS Rajamouli is the 10th recipient of this award.
