Samajwadi Party holds national convention

SP_conventionThe ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is holding a three-day national convention in Lucknow started on Wednesday.

On the opening day of convention Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected as the party national president for the ninth consecutive term on the opening day of its national convention.

Mulayam has been elected as the national president for ninth term unanimously, party’s national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said.

Mulayam would remain the party president for the next three years, he said.

More than 10,000, delegates attended the ninth national convention which also marks 22 years of the party’s formation.

Sharad Yadav attends SP’s convention

JD(U) Chief Sharad Yadav also shared the dais with Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on the inaugural day of SP’s national convention here, fuelling speculation about their joining hands.

Sharad Yadav said that he and Mulayam had always been “good friends” and he had come to attend the convention on the SP supremo’s invitation.

“We have been together since early days. The Constitution has been dealt a severe blow in the present conditions. We have to save it,” the JD (U) leader told reporters at the start of the three-day convention.
