Lok Sabha adjourned for the day as Budget session resumes amid uproar

Both the houses of Parliament witnessed uproar as the second half of Budget session which resumed on Monday, leading to adjournments. The Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the dat after the Opposition members raised issue concerning Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. While the house was first adjourned till noon but as the protest continued, the Speaker adjounred the house till Tuesday 11:00 AM.

Not just the opposition members, the ruling NDA’s ally Telagu Desam Party (TDP) also raised protest on the issue of special package to Andhra Pradesh. The issue had resonated in the first part of Budget session as well with TDP and other Andhra Pradesh MPs raising the issue, often in the Well of the House.

Prior to the start of proceedings the Opposition and TDP members had staged protest near the Gandhi statue in Parliament House complex.

The Congress and other opposition too took to the Well raising the issue of multi-crore PNB fraud issue involving absconding businessmen Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

There are also reports that the government, on its part, is seeking to counter the opposition’s offensive by bringing the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill.

The legislation, once passed, will grant powers to the government to attach assets of persons declared fugitive. This will include benami assets too.
