Maharashtra social activist, Sambhaji Raje has been nominated to Rajya Sabha on Saturday.

Raje has the direct lineage of Chhatrapati Shivaji and Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj of Kolhapur who had funded the movement led by B R Ambedkar for justice to the depressed classes.

Raje has been working with among various social groups to ensure harmony in the state and also been restoring old forts in Maharashtra.

Raje’s nomination comes after Pranav Pandya, head of All World Gayatri Pariwar, resigned last month

Pandya said that the atmosphere in the Upper House was not conducive for him.

“I don’t think the atmosphere in Rajya Sabha is conducive for me. It will never be,” said Pandya.

Raje’s nomination to the upper house of Parliament is seen as an attempt to beat political under current emerging in the state.

In May, BJP had nominated Doctor Vikas Mahatme, another social activist of the Dhangar community, to the Rajya Sabha.
