With 386 new cases, COVID-19 infections across the country saw the biggest spike so far in the last 24 hours, taking the numbers to 1637.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare “Cases increased due to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation. It, however, does not show national trend”.
Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary with the Health Ministry told the media that 1800 people related to the Tablighi Jamaat had been sent to nine hospitals and quarantine centres.
The government has asked State Governments to carry out intensive drives to ensure that those who came in contact with affected people are tested.
The Government has once again appealed people to follow lockdown guidelines and avoid congregations and religious gatherings.
