Narendra Modi takes oath as Prime Minister of India for the second consecutive term.

President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to Narendra Modi and his council of ministers.

68 year old Narendra Modi took the stage dressed in his trademark white kurta-pyjama and read the oath of office in Hindi.

President Kovind also administered oath to 57 ministers, including 24 cabinet ministers.

“Honoured to serve India!” tweeted Modi after taking the oath for the second consecutive term.

The two-hour swearing-in ceremony was the largest event to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan with 8,000 people attending the event.

Guests including world leaders, governors and chief ministers of states, party and opposition leaders, diplomats and celebrities were present at the ceremony at 7 pm this evening.

Apart from the leaders of BIMSTEC countries, including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan, heads of the states from Kyrgyzstan and Mauritius also graced the ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The leaders from the opposition parties, chief ministers of different states, ambassadors, diplomats and celebrities from Bollywood also attended the event.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were present among others.

Narendra Modi is the fourth Prime Minister in Indian history to be elected Prime Minister for a second term after Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.
