State govts tightens security for Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory to the states for Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh. It has advised to take all precautionary measures in view of calls for bandh by some groups on social media. Various anti-reservation groups have called the bandh to protest against the clashes during the SC/ST Bharat Bandh on April 2nd.

State governments have been advised to step up security and make appropriate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, including issue of prohibitory orders, if necessary.

The advisory has also asked for intensification of patrolling in all sensitive locations so as to prevent any loss of life or damage to property.

The Advisory stressed that District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police be made personally responsible for ensuring that law and order situation remains firmly under control in the areas of their jurisdiction.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place especially in Rajasthan ahead of the Bandh.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been imposed in Jaipur city. Mobile internet service has also been blocked for 24 hours in Jaipur from Monday night as a precautionary measure. Section 144 have also been imposed in other cities including Alwar, Bhopal, and Nanital.
