Tamil Nadu Polls: AIADMK to contest 227 seats

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary Jayalalithaa announced the list of 227 candidates for the May 16 Assembly elections in Chennai on Monday.

“AIADMK is contesting in 227 constituencies and 7 will be allocated for alliance partners ,” party release said. Party supreme and incumbent Chief Minister to contest from RK Nagar constituency

State Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam will be contesting from Bodinayakkanur, State Electricity Minister Natham R. Viswanathan from Athur constituency.

Party’s candidate list has plenty of new faces and loyalists besides fielding 31 women candidates, including herself.

DMK MLA Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, DMDK MLAs Panruti S. Ramachandran and Mafoi K. Pandiarajan and PMK MLA M. Kalaiarasu who joined AIADMK before polls have also been given ticket.

Allies of AIADMK Actor R. Sarathkumar, leader of the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi and leader of the Mukkulathor Pulipadai secured a seat each in the list announced by AIADMK.

Actor Karunas who joined the party on Sunday, after meeting TN CM Jayalalithaa also got a ticket.

AIADMK will also contest in Tiruvananthapuram, Chittoor, Malapuzha, Nemmaara, Devikulam, Udumbanchozha & Peermedu seats in Kerala.

AIADMK has decided to go solo in upcoming Puducherry elections and 7 Constituencies in Kerala – Puratchi Thalaivi Amma.

The party had won in 203 Assembly constituencies in the 234 seat Tamil Nadu Assembly. It had registered a landmark victory in Lok Sabha polls held in 2014 too by winning 37 seats out of 39 seats.
