Tension engrossed in the Kanth area of Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district on Saturday as the BJP joined the protests of one community and accused the state government for taking a side of other community.
Moradabad District Magistrate (DM) Deepak Agarwal met Uttar Pradesh (UP) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Laxmikant Bajpai who was holding a protest outside his residence over a demand for a case to be filed against police officials who had misbehaved with party MLAs during the recent violence in the Kanth area.
“The security had been tightened in and adjoining districts of Moradabad in view of the proposed ‘Jalabhishek March’ of the VHP and ‘peace march’ of Congress.
The BJP had said that it will continue with its ‘pro-people policies’ and will be abide by them in situations like in Kanth village where police and district administration officials removed loud speakers from a Shiva temple that led to communal clashes. Sixty two people were arrested in connection with the violence.
Congress leaders detained
Congress leaders Madhusudan Mistry and Nagma were detained on Saturday, when they were on their way to Moradabad to hold a ‘peace march’.
Congress leaders Naseeb Pathan, Madhusudan Mistry, Nagma and other prominent leaders were detained by the police at UP Gate for violation of prohibitory orders, city Superintendent of Police Shivhari Mirna said.
Authorities had yesterday imposed prohibitory measures in Moradabad to ward off any communal tension in the area as VHP, BJP and Congress had planned to stage marches in Kanth town on Saturday.
