64.02 per cent estimated voter turnout was recorded for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, 2019.
117 seats spread across 13 states and 2 Union Territories voted in the third phase.
Single phase elections took place for all 26 seats in Gujarat, all 20 seats in Kerala, 2 seats in Goa. Whereas 14 seats each of Maharashtra and Karnataka, 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 7 seats in Chhattisgarh, 6 seats in Odisha, 5 seats each in West Bengal and Bihar, 4 seats in Assam, 1 seat in Jammu and Kashmir and one seat each in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu voted.
Till 12 noon 74.05% voting was recorded in Assam, 54.95% in Bihar, 70.97% in Goa, 58.95% in Gujarat, 12.86% in Jammu & Kashmir, 60.96% in Karnataka, 69.20% in Kerala, 55.64% in Maharashtra, 57.86% in Odisha, 71.45% in Tripura, 56.57% in Uttar Pradesh, 78.94% in West Bengal, 64.68% in Chhatisgarh, 71.43% in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 65.34% in Daman & Diu.
Many prominent names were in the fray in the third phase. All eyes were on BJP chief Amit Shah contesting from Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad, Sambit Patra from Puri Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, Jaya Prada, BJP candidate from from Rampur, BJP’s Varun Gandhi from Pilibhit, Congress party’s Abhijit Mukherjee from Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal and SP’s Mulayam Singh Yadav from Mainpuri.
For 543 seats, Lok Sabha polls are being conducted in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting will take place on May 23.
