Two militants have been killed after security forces launched a final assault on terrorists hiding in a building in Karan Nagar area for the last 24 hours. The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, a police official said.
The encounter between militants and security forces, which began Monday early after their bid to attack the CRPF camp was foiled, resumed this morning after an overnight lull.
The operation to flush out the militants is in its final stage and is expected to end soon, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, SP Pani said. “We have been successful in localising them,” Pani told reporters near the encounter site.
Asked about the number of militants, the IGP said, “We suspect they are two but that will only be confirmed once the operation is over”.
Earlier, one jawan was killed in the gunfire between the security personnel and militants. The bid to storm security personnel camp came just two days after the dastardly attack on the Sunjwan army camp where six people, including five army personnel were killed.
The jawan, belonging to 49 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), suffered injuries in the gunfight and died hours later, they said.
On Saturday, two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad attacked an Army camp in Sunjwan area of Jammu five army personnel and a young girl, a daughter of the army officer.
