The saga of rift within the powerful political family of Uttar Pradesh, which is currently ruling the state government, may just be at its fag end. With his uncle and party leader Shivpal Yadav reappointed as the state unit chief of Samajwadi Party, the truce seems to have worked out.

Meeting Shivpal Yadav on Saturday, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav told the eagerly awaiting supporters and even eager press pack that the party and, most importantly, the family is “united” and there is “no rift within the Samajwadi Party”.

“I have myself congratulated SP’s UP unit president Shivpal Yadav after meeting him at his residence,” Akhilesh Yadav said, dispelling any further the sparring within the ruling house.

The much watched feud in the family led to Samajwadi Party numero uno Mulayam Singh Yadav work overtime late on Friday to work a compromise formula.

Lending hints of things to come, Mulayam Singh as well as Akhilesh rejected Shivpal’s resignation from the Cabinet as well as the head of state party unit, to which he was appointed two days ago replacing Akhilesh. In a dramatic development in the feud in the Yadav clan, Shivpal Yadav had resigned from all cabinet and party posts late on Thursday evening.

“That (resignation from party post) has not been accepted. When I have said that for me, Netaji’s hint is an order…Akhilesh has also said so. So where is the feud anymore,” Shivpal told the press on Friday.

Mulayam had rushed to Lucknow to deal with the tiff first hand. He first met Shivpal and Akhilesh separately and then together to ensure that the crisis was resolved.

“There can be no division in the party, till I am there…We have a big family and differences may occur… There is no fight between Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh,” said the party chief.

And the developments were seen soon. Saying that Akhilesh will not defy his words, he announced the return of sacked mining minister Gayatri Prajapati to the UP Cabinet. It was considered a bone of contention between Shivpal and Akhilesh.

Separately but in connection with the issue, Akhilesh, on his part, told a news channel, “I have two duties, as Chief Minister and as son. I will honour the word of the party president and I will do everything to make my father happy”.
