As Opposition protest over demonetisation continued in Parliament, the Lok Sabha on Thursday witnessed unruly scenes with Samajwadi Party MP Akshay Yadav hurling papers at the Speaker.

The opposition took to the Well of the house raising slogans against the government as soon as the lower house resumed proceedings of the day.

Amid their protest, Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh hurled papers at the Speaker after which the house was adjourned soon.

Resuming the house proceedings at noon, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan warned Akshay Yadav over his conduct. Ms Mahajan also asked the Samajwadi Party MP to refrain from such a conduct in future.

This conduct of Yadav is a “gross violation of the norms of standards and etiquettes laid down under Rules and Conventions of the House”, she said, adding “this conduct is not proper on the part of the member and also for the dignity and prestige of the House”.

“I therefore, while, expressing my grave displeasure over the conduct of Shri Yadav warn him to refrain from such from disorderly act in future,” the Lok Sabha said in her order.

The house, however, couldn’t continue with the business as Opposition continued protest seeking admission of their adjournment notice and discussion under the Rule 56, which entails voting after the discussion.

The government has rejected both the demands, which has led to an impasse in the lower house.
