Sania Mirza along with Martina Hingis continued her domination in the women’s doubles event by winning the US Open title. This is the duo’s 2nd Grand Slam win in a row this season.

The Indian-Swiss duo defeated the pair of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova with ease in the US Open final, winning it 6-3 6-3. The top seeds wrapped up the match in just 70 minutes.

“It’s a great year for us. It’s already been a great year for me. I became world number one. We were a solid team and were in with a chance in all Slams. We are happy to come through. I won mixed doubles here last year, great to come back and win this,” Sania said after her win, thanking all her fans who came out to support her.

The top seeds outplayed the fourth seeded pair of Dellacqua and Shvedova. The opponents struggled to hold their serve, making it extremely easy for Sania and Hingis. Sania’s ground-strokes from the back of the court, and Hingis’ agility at the net were no match for the rivals.

Sania and Hingis secured break points at regular intervals through the game and kept consolidating their lead to clinch the match.

This is Sania and Hingis’ second Major title in a row. The in-form pair won the Wimbledon Championship earlier this season. Sania now has 5 Grand Slam titles in her kitty.

It has been an extraordinary season for Martina Hingis too. In the US Open 2015, this is Hingis’ 2nd title. On Saturday she won the mixed doubles title win Leander Paes. In all, Hingis has grabbed 5 Grand Slam titles this season. And with this win, she has now bagged a whopping 20 overall Grand Slam titles.

“From the start we hit it off. Our games complement each other. Sania won her first Wimbledon, for me it is bonus. I volley better than what I used to. (in her singles days),” said an elated Hingis after the match.

Hingis has had an extremely successful partnership with both Paes and Sania. She has won 3 titles with Paes and 2 with Sania.

The US Open wrapped up with a double cheer for India. Both Paes and Sania ended up winning Slam titles with Martina Hingis.

People from all around the world, including India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulated Sania on her win.

“Congratulations @MirzaSania & @mhingis on the phenomenal victory at the @usopen. Your accomplishments make us proud,” PM Modi tweeted.
