The Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu has called for a concerted global response to fight the menace of terrorism. Speaking at the plenary session in the ongoing Paris Peace Forum held to on the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, Vice President called for an early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the United Nations to deal with the dangers of terror and sought for the cooperation of the world leaders.

Stressing the importance of peace to achieve progress, Vice President highlighted need to have security, economic development and said that despite the advancement of civilization, the threat of war continues to remain and is posing serious challenges such as environmental degradation, economic crisis and escalating humanitarian needs.
Quoting Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Naidu said that he was an apostle of peace and non-violence who had said that the world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed. He said the message of Mahatma for a sustainable world is even more relevant than ever before.
Shri Naidu said that the world needs effective multilateralism that brings all the nations on a common platform to explore common solutions for challenges faced by humanity. He called for united efforts of the world to find to chalk out an action plan to deal with global priorities such as eradication of poverty, providing education, healthcare and jobs, ensuring gender parity etc remain global priorities.
For multilateralism to be effective, organizations like United Nations Security Council must reflect the realities of the 21st century, but unfortunately it is still a mirror image of the geopolitical architecture of the Second World War, he said.
The Vice President informed the gathering at the plenary session that India has always been at the forefront and a leading voice to champion the need for strong multilateralism. He said that India treats the world as its family and asked the present world leadership to work together as one family to succeed ion global endeavours.
He complimented the French government for organising an event on the armistice day to rededicate the efforts of the world to the cause of peace. He appreciated France for being a driving force of the post-war European integration and and also for being a strong votary of multilateralism.
Earlier in the morning, Vice President participated in the wreath laying ceremony organised at Arc de Triomphe along with world leaders including the host Country President Emmanuel Macron, US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and leaders from 51 countries.
The Vice President Naidu also paid homage to Indian soldiers who fought selflessly for human liberty and freedom on the occasion of 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day that marked the end of World War 1 and said that their valour & sense of duty reaffirmed India’s commitment to righteousness.
