Voting for Presidential poll on July 17, counting on July 20

Rashtrapati-Bhawan-President-House-Raisina-Hill-400x265Presidential polls will be held on July 17, and the counting of votes will be held on July 20, the Election Commission announced on Wednesday evening.

The term of President Pranab Mukherjee ends on July 24, and thus the EC wants the entire process to end by then.

“The last date for filing of nomination is June 28 and the counting will take place in Delhi on July 20,” Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi told reporters.

A notification will be issued on June 14, he added.

Nominations will be scrutinised on June 29, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations will July 1, Zaidi announced.

The President of India is elected by an electoral college consisting of the elected members of both houses of parliament and the elected members of the Legislative assemblies of states and union territories.
