President Pranab Mukherjee released the book ‘Citizen and Society’ of Vice President Mohd Hamid Ansari on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the high profile book release attended by Cabinet Ministers of the Union Government, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and several other distinguished guests.

The book features an eclectic mix of topics—which range from the role of women to the significance of dissent, literature and art, the challenges in Indian agriculture to science and technology—Citizen and Society tackles issues with sensitivity and understanding.

Speaking at the occasion at Rashtrapati Bhawan, President reminded Ansari’s work as a scholar, diplomat and administrator. President said that Vice President’s book reminds people of the responsibility bested by the constitution

“Democracy pays rich dividends if we engage with issues. Vice President has done it with clarity,” said President Pranab.

Congratulating the Vice President for presenting his thoughts to the future generations through the book, PM Narendra Modi said that technology has converted citizens to netizens, and traditional boundaries are being obliterated.

“India should be proud to be a country of so many dialects and languages, and so many different faiths, living in harmony. All citizens have made a contribution to make this happen,” said PM Modi

Vice President Ansari also addressed the gathering and said that his book is a collection of memorial anniversary lecture and speeches on specific occasions.

“My endeavour in each is to assertain and dilates upon a theme pertaining to citizen body covering polity, identity and some aspects of global affairs,” said Vice President.

The Vice President also said his ‘effort is to probe diversity of challenges that confront the country.’ He said that an open society like India needs open debate and it must to move beyond tolerance and accept diversity.
