Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu stressed on the importance of non-violence in the society while addressing an Ahimsa Diwas function in New Delhi on Sunday morning.

The Vice President said that the path of non-violence creates a healthy society. The VP said this while addressing the Ahimsa Diwas function organised by Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti on its 13th Foundation Day.

The Vice President stressed on the need for peace and a harmonious environment in the society to achieve the benefits of development. He said the Indian culture was pluralistic and unity in diversity was its fundamental characteristic.

Denouncing violence, VP Naidu said that it was a vicious circle.

Violence leads to repetition of violence, the Vice President explained.

He called for dialogue and negotiations to solve problems. He then went on to give examples of how great men like Mahavir and Buddha advocated non-violence. Mahatma Gandhi liberated India with the weapons of non-violence…..Non-violence does not mean cowardice, the Vice President explained.

Finally, the Vice President hoped that the Ahimsa Vishva Bharti Institution would play an important role in society and nation building. He laid emphasis on bringing the younger generation to follow the path of non-violence.
